Audit Manager

Working as an integral part of the Management Partnerships (MP) team the MP Auditor will support and assist both the nationwide field-based Operations team and our Pub based Management Partners from a risk and compliance perspective. The role will also lead activity on draught and packaged tie compliance performance with the key focus on reducing leakage within the Leased and Tenanted estate.

The role provides financial analysis, implementation, and measurement of controls with an overall aim to reduce commercial risk and loss.

Key Accountabilities


  • Evaluate key financial data to find opportunities to improve performance and controlReview and report on the accuracy, timeliness and relevance of financial and other information provided
  • Ensure stock loss is minimised, identified, and fully investigated to maximise the yield
  • Conduct special investigations or risk assessments from time to time as required
  • Follow, track and evidence the implementation of audit recommendations
  • Report and escalate any audit recommendations which have not been actioned
  • Manage the risk cycle of Audits. Optimising the use of the external audit cost.
  • Enable Operations Managers pro-active activity through analysis and action of the beer tie


  • Provide support and guidance to Publicans in areas such as stock management, control and quality drivers
  • Identify and recommend pub practises which will reduce both loss and risk
  • Demonstrate a passion for pubs and the Punch brand. Undertake an ambassadorial role for the brand in all communications and interactions


  • Identify and recommend policy and procedural improvements
  • Provide a proactive approach in identifying and resolving non-compliance issues and completing ‘value added’ exercises


  • Schedule and conduct pub audits with accuracy to provide analysis on performance and controls
  • Present detailed analyisis and reasoning to the Operations Managers (OM’s)
  • Management Pub Partners and the senior leadership team
  • Provide clear summary and actionable task reports for the Management Pub Partners and Operations Managers
  • Coach and develop stakeholders
  • Direct and support Operations Managers via analysis of Brulines, Vianet and tied non stockists


  • Develop and implement a risk and control strategy in conjunction with the Ops Director and Managed Partnership Controller
  • Minimise leakage from the Leased & Tenanted contractual tie through strict measurement, analysis, and corrective implementation
  • Deliver group training where required for operation managers.
  • To contribute to periodic reporting of audit and follow up activity
  • Responsible for dealing with external auditors’ ways of working & EPOS providers in terms of system of calculation, stock entry and output.

Person Specification – Technical Competencies & Professional Expertise

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an audit or compliance role
  • Organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Numerate competent and accurate with proven analytical skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong IT skills
  • Flexibility in working patterns to conduct stock audits as required to meet store demands
  • Present a professional image at all times
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to work with colleagues at all levels
