The Blue Ball, Sidford, despite its traditional appearance, is actually one of our newest pubs, having been completely rebuilt in 2007. The pub was remodelled on the existing footprint of the property and done in such a way that it still retains its appealing charm and character. The pub is prominent on the main road through Sidford when heading to (or from) Lyme Regis so has regular passing trade.
This pub is a true community hub for local residents and we would like to maintain this. There is a fantastic potential to continue to develop the food within this business and the main reason to visit, for many of the guests, is the delicious Sunday Roast and home cooked food throughout the week as well as a relaxing break in one of the 9 guest bedrooms.
The business also offers a function room, popular for meetings and celebrations, as well as housing the skittle teams – it is a very versatile space that has it’s own private garden area so there is lots of opportunity.

Business facilities
This pub offers a authentic feel with its bright welcoming colours and traditional thatched roof. The pub offers a generous trading space and has a outside garden with a decked area, garden gazebo and garden benches – making it a perfect spot in the warmer weather.
Inside, the property has the ambience and atmosphere of an authentic Devon, country pub. It offers open fires and seating areas with plenty of nooks and crannies to make it feel cosy and intimate wherever you sit. The pub is mostly open-plan but with three main areas and there is easy access to the bar for customers wherever they sit.

Letting Rooms
The pub offers an “easy access” letting room situated on the ground floor and a further 8 letting rooms on the 1st floor of the pub. They are all en-suite and sleep at least two guests; with a mix of double rooms and rooms whereby beds can be set up to customers requirements.

Refurbishment
We are looking to refresh this pub to ensure it is in excellent condition for its next team. This will entail improvements to décor, furnishings and furniture to ensure this warm and welcoming pub looks at its best.
Externally, the property will be redecorated, some new signage installed, and we will also ensure the maintenance of the thatched roof.

About the local area

Sidford is an attractive village by the river Sid, just a couple of miles away from the charming seaside town of Sidmouth. The village is home to over 2,000 residents. The local area is a popular destination for artists and photographers offering delightful scenery. There are interesting buildings and a fabulous Norman Pack Horse bridge which spans the River Sid. Sid Vale Heritage Centre has an interesting story waiting to be shared. For lovers of the great outdoors, there is a cycling route through the picturesque Sid Valley, walking on Mutters Moor, or strolling around the Pecorama Pleasure Gardens. There’s also a model railway, crazy golf and Beer Heights Light Railway. It really is a great place to visit all year round.

We are looking for a skilled operator, with experience in running a larger scale hospitality business, managing a team and ensuring an excellent experience and service for every customer and skilled and providing welcoming accommodation for your guests.
Ideally, this would suit a partnership who are dedicated to delivering high standards of service and outstanding pub food. As such, catering experience is essential whether this be within the pub industry or similar.  You will also have a clear vision of how to ensure manage the business so that it stands out from the competition.
