About the local area 

Witton Gilbert is a quaint country village steeped in history and located approximately 3.7 miles (6.0 km) to the north-west of Durham, through which the River Browney passes.  

It is a medieval town of Saxon origin, originally spelled Witun (Wit means white house and Tun means fortified place). The prefix Gilbert was only added to refer to the Norman Lord Gilbert who was highly esteemed as a significant Landowner in the 12th Century.  

The location attracts visitors because of its close proximity to the Beamish Museum, Durham Castle, Durham University Botanic Garden, Crook Hall, Durham University Oriental Museum, Wharton Park and Finchale Priory, to name but a few attractions.  

Ideal operator 

We are looking for a hands-on community-focused Publican. We need someone who loves people and can welcome locals and new guests alike.  

 If you are passionate about sport, football in particular, charity events and hosting popular entertainment, when safe to do so, this is the pub for you.

This pub is for a single operator or a couple with two private bedrooms, a private kitchen, and a private lounge.  

About the Agreement

Our Tenancy agreements vary between 3 – 5 years offer a flexible approach to running your own pub business. Your pub will be ready to trade, with carefully tailored food and drinks menus in place which you can evolve as you go along.

You will receive a high level of support and everything you need to run a successful business. From the beginning, you will have dedicated Punch Development Manager, plus access to training and development, business planning, operations and accounting expertise.

Once you’ve completed the 5-day induction course we’ll provide you with ongoing support to help you maximise the efficiency, sales and profitability of your pub. This includes helping you decide on the right drinks offer, guidance on margin and support creating a marketing plan to build for continued success. To help market your pub, we also offer lots of support and advice.

Punch Tenancy agreements have shared repairs liability, we will help you manage your ongoing repairing obligations. We do this by operating a repairs and maintenance fund for all new agreements.

* The calculation of the initial Ingoing Costs assumes a minimum deposit (£3,000 or £6,000) plus legal fees. The subsequent deposit build up (if any) will need to be paid over 52 weeks. This can be discussed with the recruitment team or Punch Development Manager.
