Preferably from the local area you will know what makes this broad community hub tick; offering a safe, consistent approach ensuring everyone has a great time in your pub. You will be visible in your business and your firm and fair approach will earn you the respect of your customers.

You want people to have a great time in your pub whatever the reason for their visit – a quiet pint watching the racing, a few pints with friends watching the big game, sociable drinks with pool and dart team mates, a meal with the family, quiz night or open mic – you understand how their tastes change with the occasions and always exceed their expectations.

You will be experienced at liaising with local licensing, police, pub watch and be able to develop good relationships with other publicans in the area. Your welcome will be second to none and people will want you to be their host/hostess so be prepared to mingle on key sessions, everyone will want to catch up with you. You will develop a team who know their regulars, what they like to drink and their favourite dish.

You recruit, train, coach and retain the best staff leading by example you inspire your team to share your passion for exceptional service, you give them the tools to go above and beyond every day for every customer whatever the occasion.

Your food offer is classic pub food, great value for money, you take pride in making the best fish and chips, the best gammon steak with the best fried egg and the best dirty burger. Your Sunday lunch is famous across the generations and trying to get a table is an art form. You welcome everyone from the “can’t be bothered to cook” brigade to the cross-generational Mother’s Day and Christmas Dinner.

You take great pride in your cellar, the engine room of your pub, and the quality of your beer and you accept nothing less than a 5 star cask marque.

You love sports and go over and above to make sure customers choose your pub for the big sports occasions on Sky, BT Sports and the Racing Channel. Local teams are important to The Shire Oak and with an established population surrounding the pub, charity is warmly embraced – the regulars are generous and enjoy socialising for a good cause.

You understand the value being family friendly can add to your business, you know why families choose you and set the tone accordingly on those key family sessions.

The Pub

The Shire Oak sits on a major cross-roads, a landmark pub in the heart of Walsall Wood, equidistant between Lichfield and Walsall. Accessed through an entrance off a large car park the layout of the Shire Oak, although largely open plan, follows the original bar and lounge areas and is very well zoned. The traditional, locals bar to the right is where the regulars gather, in here you will find the bar stools full with gents chewing the fat while enjoying a few pints of impeccably kept ale or playing darts. The lounge area to the left has a cosy feel, with boothed seating and a more formal dining area. The double aspect open fire creates a warm feature. This is where people come for a quiet pint or traditional pub food. The pub benefits from many well-placed TVs to make the most of the multiple Sky boxes and BT Sports.

To the rear of the property there is an attractive external drinking area with a substantial smoking shelter, this is a real sun trap and being fenced in makes it a safe place to sit with the kids and while away a sunny afternoon.

There is a fully kitted out catering kitchen capable of delivering a good sized classic pub menu.
