Back in 1776 the publican of the then Plough & Crown saw an opportunity too good to be missed. It all started when one of the two churches in Fulbourn, All Saints church tower fell down, smashing all 5 of its Bells. It was proposed to sell the said bells to fund the rebuilding of the tower but the locals suspected foul play. It took an act of parliament permitting the sale of the bells, the demolishing of All Saints, the purchasing of 6 new Bells and locating them in the next-door Church of St Vigor’s. Whilst all this was happening our canny publican renamed his pub the Six Bells and set his pub up for a big party, he knew how to plan an event. There was much rejoicing amongst the locals hosted of course at The Six Bells. Needless to say we are not looking for our New Publican to change the name of the pub, we are quiet attached to it but we are looking for that special someone that maximises every opportunity, places their business and themselves at the very heart of the community, understand the importance of the people that work in the pub and of course those that come to relax, socialise and enjoy life any day of the week. Most of all is passionate about quality, consistency, smashing great service every time.
The Six Bells is best in class and is the very heartbeat of the village and local community, in fact it is so good customers have been known to travel great distances to experience its hospitality. It’s by no means a recent phenonium considering the 6 Bells dates way back to the 1700. Its reputation is built in part on looks, it’s chocolate box thatched roof, low beamed bar with imposing fire to one end, its snug bar for the locals or the bright dining room make up the original pub but now with the spacious addition of the large function room and sun kissed garden. That’s still only part of its success as you can imagine great ales, the best wines, extensive range of spirits only starts to tell the tale of its vast drinks range add its seasonal food menu and you really have a special place.
