The Person

Ideal person/s has a track record and experience as General Manager of operating high quality food business.  Ability to adapt to all types of guests, from regulars to visiting families with young children.  Happy to embrace the demands of the local affluent village community, a love of cricket would be a great advantage.

Passion for customer service, who can react positively (publicly)to all guest feedback, driven to improve guest ratings across all formats (Trip, Google, Facebook, Open Table).

Ability to calmly and maturely manage a team including chefs and front of house.

Solid organisational skills and experience in maximising the commercial benefit of Online Bookings via Open Table.

An active user of social media who will promote their business via Facebook & Instagram.

Happy to organise events that engage with the local community, think charity, ale festivals, garden parties.

The Pub

The Squirrel is located in the village of Penn Street, nr Amersham & High Wycombe in the beautiful Chilterns.  6 miles (15mins) from the M40 20mins drive from the M25.

The local area benefits from large areas of open space, farm land and oak woods.  Situated opposite the village cricket pinch, the Squirrel serves as the Cricket Pavilion, with a lawn facing the cricket pitch filled with deck chairs & benches when games are played and children practising.

Many local residents are affluent working from home and commuting to London.

This village pub benefits from both lawn at front of pub and large rear beer garden, there is large private carpark to the left of the pub and garden.  The garden has a mix of covered and open areas and rustic children’s play equipment.  At the front of pub in a stables building we have created a Pizza Bar with double pizza oven, draught beers, operating Fri-Sun every weekend in the summer months.

As you walk into the Squirrel you can smell the open fire and hear the gentle chatter of locals catching up with each other around the bar area, as you explore round the pub, you will see the majority of it’s space to devoted to dining, this is broken up with wood beams.  Dining Room c20 covers to the left of the pub, as you walk through our ski lodge area has wood burning stove and tables for dining, overlooking the rear garden.

The kitchen is in the heart of the pub, the front of house team find it really easy to collect food orders and communicate to the kitchen team.

The Squirrel benefits from 2 bedroom, lounge, kitchen & bathroom, self contained managers flat on the 1st floor above the pub, overlooking pub garden and cricket pitch to the front.

The Development

The Squirrel benefitted from a £250k investment and reopened in July 2022, and still looks amazing. Delivering the Fireside Concept to enhance this already classic pub.  Colours and fabrics are simple and classic, however it has a genuine robust feel, dog walkers are actively welcomed and we can deal with muddy boots on winters mornings.  The 3 x fires/Woodburners are lit and roaring whenever there is a nip in the air.  In the summer the garden areas become the focus.  The external Pizza Bar offers Sough Dough Pizza and draught beers, soft drinks and wine.
