Overview

Now is an exciting time to take over the pub, as we have an investment planned. We’ll revamp the garden and inside the pub and provide new external decoration and signage. We’ll also overhaul the toilets and build storage areas to ease operation and future-proof the business.

Pub and location

The Barley Mow oozes charm and character. Over four hundred years old, the pub has an impressive history. Guests love the characterful layout that boasts low ceilings and low beams throughout the pub and cosy, warm, and traditional trade areas.

Running this pub, you will receive bags of Black Country friendliness. The pub has a fantastic beer garden with picturesque views of the fields that stretch across Penn Common. The Barley Mow is famous for its simple, traditional, local homecooked food and the diverse range of cask ales shared at annual beer festivals.

Inside, you’ll discover the single, compact bar. An impressive display of notes from around the globe and beer mats characterise the space, making it unique. You’ll also capitalise on the small separate dining area with 16 – 20 covers and a comfortable seating area that works well for small groups.

Locals, walkers, golfers, and their dogs love the covered external area with a large, stretched tent that proves popular when enjoying live music and events. You’ll capitalise on the small catering kitchen with a spacious back-of-house storage room.

On the edge of Penn Common, The Barley Mow shares an access driveway with Penn Golf Club. Penn is an area split between the City of Wolverhampton and the South Staffordshire district.

It was a village in the historic county of Staffordshire. Penn Common is a large area of countryside which juts into the urban area between Penn, Wolverhampton and Sedgley part of Dudley.

Tourist attractions within ten miles of Penn include The Black Country Museum, Sedgley Adventure Centre, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Baggeridge Country Park, Wolf Mountain, and a miniature railway.

Commutable cities include Walsall, Dudley, Stafford, Birmingham, and Telford. There are approximately 1617 living in the immediate area, with the average age being 44 years old. The average income is higher than the National average at 37K, and the location is extremely popular with families.
