The Jolly Roger pub in Gosport has unveiled its newly revitalised outdoor space, thanks to a £40,000 investment by leading pub company Punch Pubs & Co.

This cherished local hotspot, known for its warm atmosphere and friendly service, now boasts an inviting outdoor space featuring stunning views of Portsmouth Harbour.

The recent investment has transformed the waterfront space into a picturesque haven that guests are already praising.

Management Partners Mel Cross and Pru Henessey, who have been at the helm since 2023, are thrilled with the positive feedback from the community. “We couldn’t be happier with our new garden and are excited to welcome both old and new guests. The feedback has been amazing, and we look forward to spending the summer with everyone,” they shared.

The £40,000 makeover includes resin flooring, raised flower beds, custom-made seating, new furniture, and a drinking shelf, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a favourite drink while watching the boats navigate the harbour.

The stunning views also offer glimpses of the neighbouring Naval Dockyard, including the Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales aircraft carriers, historic dockyards with HMS Victory, and Portchester Castle.

Since reopening in May, guests have been sharing their excitement online, with comments such as “it looks amazing,” “looking good,” and “so much better, well done.”

Chris Reich, Operations Manager at Punch Pubs & Co, added: “Mel and Pru run a fantastic destination food pub. With its breathtaking views, great location, and strong community ties, the Jolly Roger has all the right components of a fantastic pub. I’m incredibly proud of this transformation and look forward to seeing a bustling beer garden throughout the summer.”

Alongside the redesigned outdoor area, the Jolly Roger remains a family-friendly pub, hosting regular live music, events, and charity fundraisers throughout the year. Their annual Raft Race will also take place on 2nd August, where locals from the community will come together to watch the race and enjoy a day filled with music, games, and food to raise funds for Gafirs, Gosport’s Inshore Rescue Service.

Meanwhile, the hospitality duo is now focused on planning an outdoor celebration to mark the new space on Sunday, the 29th of June, with the whole community invited.

More information can be found on the pub’s website and social media pages.
