Kent publicans, John, Karen and Charlotte Marshall, have become one of a handful of pub operators from throughout the country to make it through to the finals of the Great British Pub Awards.

The family, which run the George Restaurant and Bar in Molash has beaten off stiff competition to become a finalist in the Best Food pub category of the prestigious annual awards.

Their achievement comes after two rounds of vigorous judging and is now one of just five other pubs nationwide to have made it this far in the category.  The George Restaurant and Bar will now be personally inspected by judges before the winner is announced on Thursday 7 September at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

Commenting on the accolade, Karen said: “The George is a family affair and I’m thrilled that we’ve got this far and we’re looking forward to showing the judges what makes our venue so special. We pride ourselves on offering innovative, locally-sourced, homemade, seasonally-inspired food with pork, duck, guinea fowl and turkey coming from our own small holding. Having won the Kent Dining Pub of the year in the Taste of Kent Awards for the last four years, it would be amazing to add a national award for Best Food Pub to the list too – we’re all keeping our fingers crossed.”

Regional Operations Director for Punch, Crawford Scott, said: “The Great British Pub Awards is well known for having one of the most rigorous judging processes in the pub sector. Only the very best pubs in the country get through to the final and I congratulate Karen, her family and the rest of her team on this great achievement.”
