A local community pub has created 20 full and part time jobs following a large scale investment of £125,000 from national pub company, Punch.

The investment is set to see the Argyll & Sutherland in Greenock transform into a local community hub with a new exciting drinks menu including cocktails, wines and an extensive range of beers, along with regular weekly entertainment.

A new food menu has also been launched, which will now run seven days a week, served until late. Dishes range from light bites to mixed grills, along with fresh coffee served throughout the day.

Externally, the investment has transformed the outside of the pub, with new signage, a complete re-decoration and fully refurbished beer garden. Inside, the pub has undergone extensive works, which include a new back bar, furniture, carpets, blinds and curtains, as well as a complete re-decoration to the bar area and family friendly lounge.

Steven Bremner, Publican at the Argyll and Sutherland said: “I am thrilled with the investment that has taken place, the pub looks fantastic and opening night was a great success with many of the local community attending to raise a glass to their new look pub!”

Following the opening night on 28th October, local Member of Scottish Parliament, for the Scottish National Party, Stuart McMillan said: “It is great news for the local service industry in Inverclyde that twenty jobs have been created as part of the Argyll’s refurbishment, as well as the announcement that the new pub will offer meals and fresh coffee which will cater to a much wider clientele in the area.

“Local pubs are often the fabric of our communities. The Argyll and Sutherland refurbishment is a welcome addition to Greenock where people can enjoy leisure time in a safe, comfortable and controlled environment.

“I wish Steven and his team all the very best of luck for the future in the Argyll and Sutherland Bar.”

Commenting on the investment, New Business Manager for Punch, Iain Thomson said: “This is another example of our commitment to invest in our Scottish pub estate.

“We are constantly working with all our Publicans to improve the fabric of our pubs and the strength of our customer offer. Steven has the experience and expertise to make the Argyll and Sutherland a great success and I look forward to providing on-going support to help him achieve this.”
