A new chapter has begun at the Golden Lion pub in Northallerton as Management Partner Ben Doherty takes the reins following a £496,000 investment.
As part of the pub’s next phase, leading pub company Punch Pubs & Co has invested almost half a million pounds into the pub, ensuring it continues to thrive for generations to come.
Ben’s arrival at the Golden Lion marks a fresh start following the departure of long-standing and much-loved Publicans Doug and Pearl Hall, who dedicated 22 years to the community-focused hotspot. Having made an everlasting mark on the pub, Ben’s ambition is to ensure it remains a cornerstone of the local community, continuing the legacy that the husband-and-wife team created.
Ben shared: “Doug and Pearl have left an incredible legacy. For 22 years, they’ve poured their heart and soul into this pub, creating something that means so much to both locals and visitors alike. My commitment is to build on those strong foundations, investing in the pub’s future while retaining everything people know and love about it.”
As part of its new future, the transformation by Punch has refurbished the Golden Lion throughout, offering an enhanced guest experience, refreshing its key areas and strengthening its community ties even further.
Changes to the inside of the pub include a refreshed bar, new furniture throughout and upgraded AV and television systems – enhancing the entertainment programme and live sports offer. Externally, the beer garden has been totally overhauled, not just for the summer months, but also to provide a sheltered haven that can be enjoyed all year round.
Alongside the refreshed surroundings, guests can also enjoy a brand-new food menu featuring great British pub classics combined with seasonal flavours, including their stacked burgers, beef lasagne and the already popular Sunday roast.
Known for its warm hospitality, strong community connections and welcoming atmosphere, the Golden Lion has become the go-to place locally and has established a loyal guest base and reputation that extends far beyond the town.
