The Red Lion in Leek has officially reopened its doors following a four‑week closure and a major £275,000 investment with leading pub company Punch Pubs & Co.

Not only has this community pub undergone a major overhaul, but it also reopens under new leadership. Publicans Dave Jennings and Rach Bereton, along with their families and several familiar faces from the existing team, are prepared to guide the pub into its new chapter. Experienced hospitality professionals, Dave and Rach, bring passion, experience, and deep local knowledge to The Red Lion.

“Having spent many years enjoying the pub, I’m truly excited to re-establish The Red Lion as a genuine community hub, the go-to place for celebrations, catch-ups, memorable nights out, sports, dancing, and live entertainment,” shared Dave. “But importantly, it will be a supportive workplace where staff feel valued and able to grow.”

Now refreshed, redesigned, and re-energised, the historic Market Place pub is ready to welcome both loyal regulars and new visitors, offering fantastic value, an unbeatable atmosphere, and a truly community-centred experience seven days a week.

The extensive refurbishment has transformed both the inside and outside of the Red Lion, modernising the space while preserving the traditional charm locals know and love. The investment includes a full exterior redecoration and new signage, which has attracted significant local attention, along with a refreshed beer garden featuring new planters, festoon lighting, and all-new outdoor furniture, just in time for spring and summer.

While outside boasts a new look, guests will also love the warmer, more flexible and social space the investment has created inside.

The Red Lion now offers two soft snugs for cosy, relaxed seating, a redesigned main bar area and a full internal refresh – with upgraded flooring, heritage-themed décor, lighting, fixtures and traditional upholstered seating.

With upgraded AV technology and multiple high-quality screens throughout, the pub is now fully equipped to show Sky and TNT Sports, including all major sporting events, and features a double darts throw and movable pool table.

From Premier League clashes to darts championships and race days, the pub is set to become one of Leek’s top destinations for sports fans.

Punch Pubs & Co Senior Operations Manager, Rachael Henry, added: “I’m incredibly proud to welcome Dave, Rach, their families and team into the Punch family, and I’m excited to see The Red Lion thrive at the heart of Leek under their leadership.

“This pub represents our commitment to providing community-driven hospitality, strong local partnerships and the best value-for-money experience. I look forward to seeing their continued success for many years to come.”

The Red Lion’s reopening weekend kicked off with live music from local band Fever Train, giving guests the chance to explore the new-look pub while enjoying fantastic entertainment and a lively, welcoming atmosphere. Dave, Rach and the family were on hand throughout the weekend to greet guests personally and begin the Red Lion’s exciting next chapter.
