The team at the Plume of Feathers pub in Barlaston is celebrating after reaching the finals of the Great British Pub Awards 2017.

One of only six venues nationwide to be selected as a finalist in the Best Partnership Pub category, the Plume of Feathers in Barlaston with Neil Morrissey opened in March 2015, following a £400,000 joint investment with Punch.

Picturesquely located on the banks of the Trent and Mersey Canal at Station Road, Barlaston, Staffordshire, the Plume of Feathers is a stylish and welcoming pub, with a full restaurant, bar area to enjoy drinks and snacks, and plenty of outdoor seating.

Thanks to Neil Morrissey’s passion for beer, the Plume offers a wide range of real ales, including two of his own brews: Morrissey Blonde and Plume Bitter. Customers can also enjoy a tempting menu of pub classics and innovative local dishes, such as their popular Staffordshire Oatcake with shredded duck.

With its strong commitment to the local community, the Plume supports one charity each year and for 2017, that charity is the nearby Douglas Macmillan Hospice. Recent events that benefitted the charity, as well as the locals, were the annual Mid-Summer Plume Party, where over 1,000 people enjoyed live music, street food and family entertainment, and a ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ night, where a team of celebrity chefs chopped, cooked and sweated their way through serving a full pub of diners.

Commenting on the achievement, Richard Slingsby from the Plume of Feathers said: “We’re delighted to have reached the national finals of these prestigious awards. Over the last 12 months, we’ve worked closely with Punch to develop a clear position for the Plume of Feathers as a quality destination pub at the heart of its local community and we’re proud of what we’ve achieved.”

David Wigham, development director for Punch, adds: “We have a strong working relationship with the team at the Plume of Feathers and have worked collaboratively to build a successful business. The Great British Pub Awards is well known for having one of the most rigorous judging processes in the pub sector. Only the very best pubs in the country get through to the final and I congratulate Neil, Richard, John, Luther, Bruce and team on this great achievement.”

The winner of the Great British Pub Awards will be announced at a ceremony at the London Hilton on 7 September 2017.
