Overview

Could you run this Broseley pub?

The Duke of York is a well-loved local pub nestled on Hockley Road just off the High Street, Broseley in Shropshire. Well known for its delicious food and quality cask ales, The Duke of York provides something to suit everyone’s tastes. Here you’ll discover a great range of beers and ciders, home-cooked food served all week, including Sunday Roasts, grill evenings, themed evenings, and daily specials.

The Duke of York is popular for its events, including quiz leagues. Sports teams are catered for and have a real family focus. Guests enjoy a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This pub is a true community hub, where locals come together, boasting a spacious bar area where guests enjoy playing darts and pool.

The Duke of York’s spacious and traditional bar area oozes character. Here you’ll find comfortable seating, a large screen TV, a darts board, and a gaming machine. Guests enjoy the warm glow of the feature log burner fireplace all year round.

The dining area sits slightly away from the main bar with a warm, cosy feel that features a wood burner. It is the perfect place to enjoy traditional homecooked pub grub. During the summer, guests bask in the sunlight in the beer garden which is popular with families.

The location

You’ll find Broseley south of the River Severn near Ironbridge, seven miles from Telford and 35 miles North-west of Birmingham. Broseley is a market town in Shropshire. Situated on the banks of the Severn, forming one side of the World-famous Ironbridge, its history is awash with tales of an industrial past.

Broseley is also home to the world-famous Salopian pottery and has been the centre of the British pipe-making industry. It’s also famous for its stylised brown-red brick colour, produced locally.

Visitors enjoy the beautiful Benthall Hall, a historic manor house (National Trust), and church. Any walk around Broseley will reveal to you the workings of an early industrial town and the area’s heritage. You will capitalise on the appeal of a historic town with two museums that are part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust.

Planned redevelopment

We’re going to decorate the pub externally and create a new signage scheme to increase the pub’s kerb appeal. We’ll also reshape the beer garden, making it user friendly and more accessible for customers, and create a sparkle in the inside trading area, complete with a toilet refurbishment and new fixtures and fittings that will bring the pub up to date.

Accommodation

You’ll discover three private bedrooms, a kitchen, and a lounge.

The ideal operator

We’re looking for a duo with excellent front of house skills and operational knowledge. You’ll also have local knowledge and be experienced in the industry, putting your team and customers at the heart of everything you do.

The Duke of York needs Publicans who are precious about their standards and deliver first-class customer service. You’ll lead from the front with excellent communication skills and an infectious personality that engages your team and customers.

We’re looking for a creative operator who knows how to reach a new audience using social media channels. You’ll also liaise with local businesses to promote your pub locally. Service excellence will be the focus. You’ll hire and train staff who are passionate about people and your pub, taking pride in everything they do.
