Leading pub company Punch Pubs & Co has expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of two popular Northeastern pubs: The Northumberland Hussar in Heaton and The Ivy House in Sunderland.

Both pubs, known locally for their wide range of craft and cask ales, will continue to be run by their existing managers, Bethanie Gardener at the Hussar and Claire Cowie at the Ivy House. They will be supported in the interim by the Queensway Advisory team.

As part of the transition into Punch’s Management Partnerships estate, Punch Pubs & Co Operations Manager Jason Moran will be supporting both sites.

He shared: “The Northumberland Hussar and the Ivy House are fantastic community pubs offering a great range of food and drinks. The existing teams have created pubs that truly stand out locally, with strong entertainment offers that are a real hit with their communities.

“I’m looking forward to working with the teams and supporting the bright future ahead for both pubs.”

While both pubs already excel with their engaging offers and weekly entertainment schedules, Punch will be investing in both with the addition of Sky Sports.

Speaking about the acquisition, Punch Pubs & Co Head of Acquisitions, Andrew Cannons said: “We’re thrilled to welcome two fantastic pubs into the Punch family. We know that both of these pubs are well-loved locally, and I do not doubt that with our industry-leading training and support, that these pubs will continue to thrive and flourish for many years to come.”

David Cash, Regional Director for the North & Midlands at Christie & Co acted for the sellers and comments: “The Hussars and the Ivy House are superb examples of brilliantly run, community locals in great suburban locations and this deal further demonstrates the demand for quality freehold pubs throughout the region.”

Drake & Co. acted on behalf of the leading pub company throughout their latest acquisition.

Punch remains actively interested in further quality acquisitions, including both packages and individual sites that align with its aim to become the 5 star pub company.
