Leading pub company, Punch Pubs & Co, is set to unveil an characterful transformation of The Dog House – a much-loved and distinctive pub in the heart of Kennington.

Work commenced earlier this May, with a focus on delivering a sympathetic yet impactful refresh which is designed to enhance the pub’s unique charm while keeping it as a modern, go-to place in the community.

Rather than reinventing the pub, the refurbishment will celebrate its quirky personality, ensuring its character remains firmly intact. Key areas of the pub will be elevated, including a refresh of the popular function room and upgraded customer facilities, alongside subtle improvements throughout the site to enhance the overall guest experience.

With a strong focus on sustainability, the first phase of the two-phase investment will prioritise reclaimed materials – including a new bar front repurposed from an old rollercoaster – alongside antique-sourced furnishings. The result will be a renovation that is both environmentally conscious and rich in authenticity.

The design concept, which will take inspiration from an opulent Indian summer, will layer warmth, texture and considered detail to create a space that feels both elevated and welcoming, while honouring the pub’s historic roots.

Once reopened, the Dog House is set to re-establish itself as a go-to destination for locals and visitors alike. The ambition is to create a city pub that offers a true escape from the hustle and bustle, making it ideal for relaxed lunchtime drinks, after-work cocktails and social gatherings.

As phase one is already underway, anticipation is building for its final stage, which will focus on the pub’s external area redefining the pub’s outdoor space with a blend of tradition mixed with contemporary style, with completion anticipated in mid to late June.

Updates of the current works can be found on the Dog House’s social media pages.
