The Black Lion pub in Richmond, North Yorkshire, has unveiled a full refurbishment of its guest rooms – the final stage in a series of investments by leading pub company Punch Pubs & Co to elevate guest experience and comfort.
The historic, community-driven pub reopened its revitalised guest spaces this March following a targeted investment to modernise the area and bring it in line with previous improvements made to the pub’s downstairs areas.
The refreshed interiors now offer a contemporary yet cosy feel, designed to appeal to the steady stream of tourists and guests who explore both Richmond and the surrounding Yorkshire Dales throughout the year.
At the heart of the pub’s evolution is Management Partner Michaela, whose 16-year journey at The Black Lion has made her a beloved and integral part of its story. Starting as a housekeeper, she steadily worked her way through roles behind the bar, as a supervisor and eventually into taking on the pub business as her own.
“I’m delighted with the investment,” Michaela shared. “The feedback has already been fantastic, and most importantly, our guests love it!”
While Michaela’s progression in the pub is one of determination and passion for hospitality, the pub’s own transformation remains deeply rooted in tradition and community. A huge part of its role is to be the hub of the community for locals and travellers alike, offering quality service and accommodation as well as proudly being host to community-led events.
The next event to take place at the pub will be the iconic Grand Duck Race, led by the local Duck Club, an organisation proudly supported by The Black Lion. The much-loved event, which raises funds for young people in the area, takes place across the first Bank Holiday weekend in May.
With the guest rooms now revitalised, Michaela and the team are looking forward to welcoming returning and new faces for an exciting year ahead as they continue to champion hospitality, local heritage and the people who make both thrive.
