The Green Man pub, in Sandridge, played host to popular television presenter Jeff Stelling last week as he acted as quizmaster at a fantastic charity quiz night.

The Green Man, part of independent pub operators Punch Pubs & co., was selected as the lucky winner of an Abbots Ale & Greene King prize draw aimed at helping the nation slow down and enjoy the best and simple things in life, like a pub quiz with Jeff happily taking on the role of host to help raise funds for Dementia UK.

Publicans Martin and Jo Crumpton successfully gathered 26 teams from around the community to fill the pub for the night of fun and fundraising, with every entrant also receiving a complimentary pint of Abbot Ale on arrival.  Jeff proved a great sport, not only hosting the main quiz through the evening but also taking part in a laughter-filled question-and-answer session with the pub’s guests, sharing many a tale of his time on ever-popular TV shows like Soccer Saturday and Countdown.

Speaking after the event Martin and Jo couldn’t have been happier with their prize and how the night had gone, they said: “What a night! It was great to welcome so many into the pub – we could have filled it three times over! Jeff was a fantastic host and sure knows how to tell a tale, it was wonderful to share such laughter and fun with the community. We want to share our thanks to all who came and helped us raise an impressive £1000 for Dementia UK and also Greene King and Abbots Ale for the prize.”
