The Black Bull pub, just outside of Chelmsford’s city centre, has celebrated a significant investment by leading pub company Punch Pubs & co, specifically proposed to put the community right back at the heart of it.
Designed to enhance the experience for locals, and strengthen its position within the community, the investment has introduced an exciting new food offer and sport-focused events, while its commitment to being a welcoming hub for everyone remains unchanged.
The refurb not only marks a new chapter in the pub’s history, but also a milestone in Management Partner, Rachel’s journey. Rachel, who has worked at the pub for almost two decades and managed it for the last eight, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be celebrating this investment in The Black Bull. This pub has always been about bringing people together, and these improvements allow us to continue doing exactly that while offering even more reasons for guests to visit.

The £350k investment includes improvements throughout the pub, alongside a renewed menu that promises great quality food. Guests can now dine on indulgent pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips, steak & ale pie and classic burgers, alongside new dishes, including the crispy chicken schnitzel and Caesar salad – all of which have already received rave reviews.
As well as strengthening its food and drink credentials, the Black Bull remains committed to supporting local causes, organisations and community groups, ensuring the pub continues to play a central role in local life. The weekly rhythm of events guarantees that no two days are the same. From soft play sessions and highland cow painting to weekly baby sensory, networking groups and tribute brands, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, all day and all week long.
