The Maltsters, a much-loved village pub nestled beside the tranquil waters of the Norfolk Broads, is preparing to embark on an exciting new chapter this spring.

Having temporarily closed its doors earlier this month, the pub has shut to undergo a significant £350k investment with leading pub company Punch Pubs & Co.

Aiming to breathe fresh life into the historic building, the transformation hopes to establish the pub as a true summer destination – buzzing with tourists, families, walkers and holidaymakers who are looking to soak up the legendary Broads atmosphere.

Steering the ship will be Management Partners Mark & Amy Wilson, who have been running the Maltsters since March 2024. With nearly two years spent getting to know the pub and its guests, as well as managing many more in the area, Mark knows exactly what makes a great Norfolk pub tick.

Alongside his partner, Amy, and his four children, the family has already become an important part of the rural community, and they’re incredibly excited about what this investment will mean for both visitors and locals.

“We’ve had a very successful first 2 years here in Ranworth,” Mark shared. “And with the support and recent investment from Punch pubs & Co, we look forward to implementing a winning recipe for years to come.”

While the pub’s rustic charm remains firmly at its heart, much of the investment will focus on behind-the-scenes upgrades, focusing on future-proofing the pub and setting it up for long-term success. The kitchen will undergo a major overhaul – changes that customers won’t necessarily spot, but will certainly taste.

As part of the huge refresh, the Maltsters will relaunch with a brand-new menu featuring decadent pub classics as well as the addition of an on-site fish and chip shop, to replace the existing pizza shack. The team expects this to be a hit with both locals and tourists alike – a perfect match for the Norfolk Broads’ sunshine.

Outside, guests will notice a fully revamped front patio, complete with new furniture and a redesigned layout crafted with the help of acclaimed garden designer, Gardening with Ish, who has teamed up with the Maltsters team and Punch to revive the space, taking inspiration from his work showcased at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Although the temporary closure may disappoint regulars, the improvements promise to make their return all the sweeter. As ongoing works continue over the coming weeks, the team is gearing up to welcome back their community and new guests with refreshed surroundings, improved facilities and the same warm welcome that keeps people coming back year after year.
