The Red Lion dates back to the 18th Century and sits in the village of Cassington, opposite the village green. It operates as a friendly traditional local pub loved by villagers and visitors alike.

The pub boasts a family- and dog-friendly garden, a catering kitchen, and an old-world feel. The pub is home to 12 sports teams and motorbike rallies throughout the year. You’ll love supporting local sports teams, though there is further scope to introduce a more regular offer.

The Red Lion features a long room spanning the width of the front, divided into three sections, with a traditional bar counter situated in the middle. Guests love the warm, rustic atmosphere, with a conventional snug featuring bar billiards to the left and an open fire on the right-hand side of the room. To the rear is a pool and darts area, a commercial kitchen, and then outside to a large garden complete with a children’s play area, an Aunt Sally throw, and two cabins, ideal for social gatherings in the warmer months.

Cassington is a small, picturesque West Oxfordshire parish of around 750 people, located approximately 8km northwest of Oxford. The local area is known as Ancient Vale, characterised by gentle rolling farmland, hedgerows, and historic woodland, which gives the area a peaceful, unspoilt feel. Much of the parish falls within the Oxford greenbelt to protect its countryside character. Access to Blenheim, Burford and other places to visit is within 30 30-minute drive.

Planned Investment

Now is an excellent time to take over the Red Lion as, subject to full approval, we are looking to create an outdoor covered area, complete with pergola and stretch tent to accommodate al fresco eating and drinking.

Ideal publican

The ideal operator will need to embody a mix of traditional hospitality, local sensitivity and operational savvy. Community-minded and approachable, we’re seeking an experienced Operator with good local knowledge, strong community connections, and the energy to drive the business forward.

You’ll craft an irresistible rhythm of the week and know how to capitalise on the power of social media to drive new foot traffic, bringing the pub to life online.
