England and Wales: Your rights and responsibilities

The Government introduced Pubs Code Regulations for all Pub Companies that own more than 500 tied pubs in England and Wales.

What’s the Pubs Code?

It’s there to protect you. The Government has created legislation that bases your rights and responsibilities on two core principles:

  • Pub Company dealings with their tied pub tenants are lawful.
  • A tied publican is no worse off than a free-of-tie publican.

You can access specific guidance and information for tied pub tenants covered under the Pubs Code on the Government website. The Pubs Code Adjudicator oversees the Pubs Code to ensure compliance with the core principles of the Regulations.
