Leading pub company Punch Pubs & Co has added to its growing portfolio with the acquisition of The Red Lion pub in Leek, Staffordshire.

The iconic marketplace pub will join Punch’s Leased and Tenanted estate and will continue to be run by the Baines family, headed up by Lucille and Paul, alongside their daughters Elle and Molly, who have been at the helm for almost five years.

Speaking about the acquisition, Punch Pubs & Co Head of Acquisitions Andrew Cannons commented: “The Red Lion is another excellent addition to the Punch portfolio, and we’re delighted to be retaining the team there. This pub already has a brilliant reputation within the community, and I do not doubt that with the guidance and support of experienced Operations Manager, Peter Kilpatrick, the Red Lion will continue to thrive for many years to come.”

The 18th-century pub is celebrated for its great range of drinks, including popular lagers, ciders and an excellent selection of wines. It also offers a quality food menu that has proven popular with locals and visitors, and is well known locally for its friendly, welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community.

Punch Pubs Operations Manager Peter Kilpatrick added: “The Red Lion is a fantastic pub, where Lucille, Paul, Elle, and Molly have created a truly warm and welcoming environment. I’m thrilled to be working alongside them to ensure the pub remains at the heart of the town, and I’m incredibly excited about what the future holds.”

Punch is continually on the lookout for more quality acquisitions, including packages and single-site opportunities that align with its ambition to be the five star pub company.
