Sean Young, Management Partner at The Red Lion, Shamley Green, is celebrating after being named a winner at the Great British Pub awards.

Held in recognition of the best-performing Publicans from across the country, The Red Lion was named ‘The Punch Pub of The Year’ amongst nominees representing independent pub company Punch Pubs & co., whose estate spans 1,300 pubs nationwide.

Following a whirlwind two years at the pub, Sean was praised for the positive impact his experience and attention to detail has had on the pub. The picturesque village pub is a top-rated destination venue; known for its awe-inspiring atmosphere, food, and service. It’s never far from the top of the local TripAdvisor charts and in constant demand from regular guests and those visiting the area.

Sean accepted the award at an awards ceremony hosted by comedian Russell Kane in Manchester, with members of his team avidly tuned in at the pub to a live broadcast of the event, ensuring they were able to share in their winning moment. On winning the award, Sean commented: “It was just fantastic, it’s all thanks to my amazing team and our guests, so it was made even more special to see all their excited messages arriving on my phone as I returned to my seat from the stage.” Asked about his secret to the pub’s success, Sean said, “It’s all about instilling pride throughout the team, equipping them with all the training and tools possible to enjoy their role and to make positive contributions to their part of a guests experience.”

Clive Chesser, Chief Executive Officer at Punch Pubs & Co., who presented the award, said, “It was an absolute pleasure to announce Sean and The Red Lion as our 2022 Pub of the Year. Sean’s passion for food and customer service is second to none, he is the absolute epitome of the perfect host, and his pub is an amazing reflection of all his hard work and passion for the business. Congratulations!”
