The community of Bitteswell has rejoiced over the grand reopening of its historic pub, The Old Royal Oak.
The revitalised pub, which reopened this November, has welcomed a new Management Partner, Mark Rowling, to the helm, as well as undergone a £300k transformation with Punch Pubs & Co.
The highly anticipated reopening was welcomed by the community, who are excited to see their local back and thriving. Led by Mark and his newly formed team, their purpose was to firmly put the pub back at the heart of the community.
“I have been blown away by the response from our guests, who were delighted to see the return of The Old Royal Oak,” Mark shared. “All of the hard work and late nights have been worth it – the feedback, compliments and positive reviews have made it all worthwhile.
“I’m also amazed by the transformation from Punch’s investment, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by our guests, too! It’s reinstated that feeling of community and sense of belonging here, which is what a pub is all about – being the go-to place for anyone and everyone to feel safe, included and welcome.”
The huge investment in the pub has helped to breathe new life into it, transforming it from the inside and out. From a vibrant new look, colour scheme and signage to indulgent new food and drinks offers, the pub’s old look and feel have been totally overhauled to make way for its new beginning.
The new menu features seasonal fresh flavours, classic pub favourites, and hearty Sunday roasts, complemented by mid-week specials and lunch deals. Guests can enjoy dishes such as Honey Glazed Ham Hock, Chicken Schnitzel or a variety of pies. Highlights also include Highland Venison Casserole and Crab Fishcakes – perfect for cosy winter dining.
Aesthetics and new menus aren’t the only changes to the village local. Mark has set his sights on the Old Royal Oak as the go-to place for community events and family-friendly fun. He’s eager to introduce a planned schedule of events, which will also utilise the vast outdoor space, having relaunched with distinct seating zones and a children’s play area, that’s fit for use all year round.
Mark continued: “It was a privilege to reopen the doors to this pub, especially as it means so much to our community. Everyone who came down to visit us said that they were proud to see it thriving again, with most people intending to stay for one drink, but bumping into friends and staying for a few instead!
“The team and I are incredibly excited for the future and for what’s to come here at the Old Royal Oak – we’ve got so much to look forward to, starting with Christmas!”
