The Black Lion Hotel in Richmond recently unveiled a stunning new look following a staggering £500k investment from independent pub operators Punch Pubs & Co, with new Management Partner and long-term stalwart at the pub Michaela Sheehan proudly at the helm.

The pub and its 14 guest rooms were transformed by Punch to revitalise the historic site offering maximum comfort and optimised natural charm for the community and visitors alike. Inside, the intimate bar and restaurant has been thoughtfully modernised to enhance the character of this 17th Century coaching inn, perfect for a lunchtime snack or a dinner treat.

Ever-popular with walkers and cyclists travelling into town to take in the spectacular scenery Richmond has to offer, guests can extend their stay in the enhanced guest rooms and take advantage of the brand-new menu filled with pub classics to suit every taste and occasion. New dishes include delicious takes on traditional favourites like a handmade steak and ale pie, and buttery mashed potato – perfect for a mid-week treat and a show-stopping Sunday roast, guests cannot fail to leave with a smile.

Home-grown Management Partner Michaela leads the new-look Black Lion’s charge. Michaela’s love for the hospitality industry was ignited at the pub nearly 15 years ago. Since then, she has worked her way up the ranks and built a strong affiliation with the community and knowledge of the industry that made her the perfect match to develop the pubs potential; speaking of the year ahead, Michaela said, “I’m thrilled to be managing the future of such a historic landmark of the town for the local community. This pub provides an important home-from-home for so many and a bolthole for those travelling from afar. The investment from Punch has allowed for some great upgrades to keep the pub at the front of everyone’s minds when looking for an atmospheric and authentic pub to visit. Together with my amazing team, we’re excited to welcome all our guests to experience it – new and old.”

Senior Operations Manager, Jannine Leadbetter, says: “We’re incredibly proud to have been able to significantly invest in this pub and offer visitors to the town a beautiful place to stay and spend their time. The Black Lion is a pub for all and its new menu and revitalised and characterful features make it somewhere really special. With Michaela leading the way, I have no doubt that this pub will thrive at the heart of its community, ensuring its success for many years to come.”
