The Cherry Tree pub in Wishaw has continued on its fundraising streak by raising a further £5,450 this winter for two vital charities.

Management Partner Helen Paterson is a passionate fundraiser and beloved member of the Netherton community. Since she took the helm of the pub four years ago, with the help of generous regulars, local businesses, and friends, she has raised a total of £30,000 for various local charities.

Speaking of her incredible achievement, she said: “I am once again overwhelmed by the generosity of the Netherton community and thrilled that we can continue to fundraise, not only to provide for these incredible charities, but also to raise vital awareness.

“I want to thank every person, guest and friend who has relentlessly helped me to put on these charity days, fundraisers and fun events. It takes a lot of hard work to pull them off, and I’m truly grateful for every bit of support we get.”

The latest fundraiser at The Cherry Tree was in aid of Beatson Cancer UK and Bowel Research UK. The day consisted of child-friendly entertainment throughout the day, and an evening for adults, with the highlight being a live waxing session featuring three brave volunteers. Incredibly, they managed to raise £5,450 over the day, which has since been split equally and donated to both charities.

“At a time when our industry is suffering, it makes me incredibly happy and proud to have so many people in the community support not just my pub, but our fundraising efforts too,” Helen continued. “For some, being a part of the pub and the spirit we’ve created is the highlight of their week, and it’s my mission to ensure this continues for many years to come.”

Helen isn’t just renowned for her incredible charity work and fundraising; she’s also been recognised by industry leaders. Last year, she reached the semi-finals of the British Institute of Innkeeping’s 2024 Licensee of the Year awards.

With her love for community as big as her kind heart, Helen continues to ensure that her pub remains the cornerstone of Netherton. From their weekly quiz night, to live music, and this December, her free Pensioner Christmas Lunches, it’s her priority to ensure her pub is targeting every corner of the community, giving back to those who have supported her over the years.
