The Northumberland Hussar pub in Heaton, Newcastle, has reopened following a £250,000 investment from leading pub company Punch Pubs & Co.
The transformation, which saw the pub close for several weeks, was unveiled to guests in June, marking a renewed commitment to enhancing the pub and cementing its position at the heart of the local community.
As part of the investment, guests will notice extensive improvements throughout the pub, including new carpets and flooring, an updated colour scheme and enhanced lighting.
The refurbishment introduces a fresh aesthetic that combines the character and charm of a traditional pub with modern elegance. The investment was designed to enhance the pub’s unique personality while celebrating its heritage.
Leading the pub into its next chapter is Beth Gardener, who has been a familiar face and manager at the pub for the past three years. Having poured her heart into the refurbishment project, she is committed to ensuring it remains the go-to destination for great food, drinks and entertainment.
She said: “I’m so proud to be leading the pub alongside my fantastic team, who our locals know and love. This investment has come at the right time to breathe new life into The Northumberland Hussar, and I know our guests will be thrilled to see its new look.
“After a temporary closure, it’s great to be reopening the pub in the sunshine on a big day for England in the World Cup. We’re all looking forward to welcoming everyone back and continuing to ensure our pub remains at the heart of the community.”
Alongside the aesthetic improvements, guests will also experience a brand-new food offering at their beloved local. From hand-stretched sourdough pizzas and fully stacked burgers, the new menu offers something for everyone, whether dining in the newly renovated interior or relaxing in the refurbished courtyard.
Complementing the food menu is a vast range of cask and craft beers, all served in a welcoming and sociable environment. The enhanced live sport offer is also expected to attract even more guests, not just for the beloved Toon Army fans, but for those looking to soak up national events, for which they’ll get front row seats.
Externally, the pub has been given a facelift, new signage and colour scheme now adorn the building, and to the rear, the investment has created a new, much larger, beer garden ready for guests to enjoy the summer months and season of sport.
Punch Pubs & Co Operations Manager Simon Lynch said: “I’m incredibly confident that The Northumberland Hussar will thrive with its new look and ambition. With Bethany and the team at the heart of it, I do not doubt that we will see continued success here.
“This investment reflects our commitment to providing the local community with a pub they can be proud of. Judging by the fantastic feedback we’ve already received, it seems we’re achieving exactly that. I’m excited to see what the future holds for Bethany and the team.”
As the Northumberland Hussars’ doors open once again, Bethany and the team are continuing to share updates on events and upcoming activities via their website and social media pages.
