The Pear Tree Inn in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, will be revitalised this December through a substantial investment by Punch Pubs & Co.
This local staple, which has long been the beating heart of its community, will reopen to guests thanks to new Management Partner, Brett Watson-Davies, who is eager to lead its transformation.
Brett, an experienced hospitality professional, seized the opportunity to take over the pub – with local ties and a passion to reignite its spirit.
“The Pear Tree has been a local of mine for many years, so it was an opportunity I couldn’t refuse,” Brett shared. “It’s an iconic and well-loved pub in the area, and the community is desperate to see it return. I’m really excited about this new venture, but above all, I can’t wait to give back to guests and revive the Pear Tree.”
In his drive to make the pub the premier spot in Mirfield, Brett is partnering with Punch on redesigning the pub and developing its new offering. Their joint goal is to make the Pear Tree a family-friendly, inclusive pub that caters to all tastes.
Taking advantage of its prime riverside location, the investment will include a complete upgrade to the pub’s garden, making it more welcoming with festoon lighting, new furniture, and an improved outdoor bar with a canopy. Guests will also be able to enjoy front-row viewing of the world’s biggest sporting events, with the option to watch outside on a bespoke garden screen.
Inside, the pub will undergo a full transformation. All existing fixtures will be retained, but enhanced with a new aesthetic featuring bold colours, patterned fabrics, and feature planting. Decorative lighting will infuse colour throughout, complemented by new artwork and bric-a-brac to create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Beyond its revamped appearance, Brett and Sarah – who will serve as the Pear Tree’s deputy manager – are focused on restoring the pub’s vibrant spirit with themed nights, entertainment, and family activities.
“There are lots of great pubs locally, but none of them have the same spirit as the Pear Tree,” Brett said. “The community is missing its weekly quiz, live sports, and themed nights, so it’s our priority to relaunch these and make sure the pub remains the place for inclusive fun for everyone.”
The Mirfield community will also be pleased to hear that the pub’s food and drink offerings are receiving a major overhaul. From 8th December, guests will have plenty of options, from world lagers to spirits, wines, cocktails, and cask ales – whether for a mid-week drink or a celebration with friends and family. The new food menu also promises to satisfy, offering a mix of pub classics, bar snacks, and small plates.
Punch Pubs & Co Operations Manager, Tony Iles, said: “I’m thrilled to be partnering with Brett and his fantastic team to restore The Pear Tree to its rightful place at the heart of the community. We can’t wait to welcome guests old and new, and I’m confident this pub has an exciting and successful future ahead.”
As work progresses on transforming the pub, Brett is eager to connect with guests via social media and has already built a large following by updating the community on the changes and sharing a ‘meet the team’ post ahead of its reopening this December.
