The Parkwood in Stockton-on-Tees have been announced as the first ever winners of a Pie Week competition held by pub owners, Punch.

Coinciding with British Pie Week from 4th– 10th March, the Punch Pie Week competition called on Punch publicans to send in a photo of their pub’s best pie and answer a series of questions about their creation and what makes the Great British Pie special.

The Parkwood’s winning entry was submitted by publican Jason French and head chef Tony Vickers. Their Pork Tenderloin & Mushroom pie is filled to the brim with a ‘quality pork fillet tenderloin filling in a wholegrain mustard creamy sauce’. Topped with pork crackling shavings and roasted apple slice, served with an apple-infused potato rosti and garden peas this mouth-watering pie is an incredible treat for visitors to the Parkwood.

Jason and Tony were presented with their trophy at the Parkwood by Punch Regional Operations Director, Mandy Southall.

Jason said: “We’re delighted to be the first winners of the Punch Pie competition!”

“We at the Parkwood are top Pie Technicians and have a famous pie Friday! We are always coming up with superb and inspiring new pies on a weekly basis so it’s great to have been recognised by Punch.”

Tracey Bell, Punch’s Head of Food, added: “The Parkwood were deserved winners of the Punch Pie Competition, their pie was fantastic. We had some amazing entries from all over the country and can’t wait to see what our publicans come up with in next year’s competition!”

The two runners-up in this year’s competition were the Olde Barbridge Inn (Barbridge) and the Wickstead Arms (Nantwich).
