Punch recently hosted a nail-biting finale at Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ Molineux Stadium for its greatest pub quizzers, where the Usual Suspects from the Brickmakers Arms in Coventry stormed home victorious.

With high quality pub quizzing talent and knowledge on display, the final matched up to its billing with the Usual Suspects defeating last year’s winners, The Galacticos from The Station, Killingworth. With 24 teams in attendance, the competition was tightly fought with a tie-breaker deciding the 2016 champions. The Usual Suspects, who are also previous winners, sportingly shared their winnings with their opponents, so they could each take home a prize fund of £1,500 each.

As winners and runners-up, both pubs will now host their own celebrity quiz night arranged and conducted by Redtooth, specialists in pub entertainment. The quiz night aims to bring the local community together for an evening of fun and laughter, whilst also driving footfall. Winners, The Usual Suspects, will be joined by a host of celebrity masterminds from both ITV’s The Chase and BBC’s Eggheads on 8 November. The following month, on 1 December, the Galacticos will be welcoming Egghead, Barry Simmons, to meet and greet participants as well as take part in their quiz night.

Stephen Martin, category manager at Punch, commented: “We’re really pleased with how the Great British Pub Quiz has captured the imagination of our Publicans and their locals.

“We always enjoy offering initiatives that our Publicans can get involved in, which are not only fun, but will also increase footfall and therefore profits for them. We hope the Brickmakers Arms, The Station and the second runners up, the Wheatsheaf enjoy their celebrity quiz night!”
