The Blue Bell pub in Yarm has united its community in a heartfelt fundraising campaign for Cancer Support UK.

Alison and Matt Shaw, Management Partners of the popular market town pub, were inspired to blend their love of pubs, pints, and people to raise awareness and funds for this vital cause.

The husband-and-wife duo took a bold leap, quite literally, by completing a charity parachute jump. Alongside their daring challenge, they also hosted a series of fundraising events at their beloved pub, all aimed at supporting families affected by cancer.

“Sadly, cancer has touched the lives of many, including those dear to us,” said Alison. “We’ve witnessed the struggles and heartaches faced by loved ones battling this relentless disease. But in the midst of that darkness, organisations like Cancer Support UK shine a light of hope.”

Driven by compassion and community spirit, the Shaws were cheered on by locals as they completed their skydive on Sunday, the 12th of October. That, alongside a charity tombola and quiz night, they’ve raised an incredible £800 – with donations still coming in.

“We’re lucky to be part of such a generous and close-knit community here in Yarm,” Alison added. “People always show up for one another, and with their help, we want to ensure no one faces their cancer journey alone. The sky dive was terrifying and amazing, both at the same time – and we cannot believe we actually did it. It’s given us a bug to do more inspiring things for charity! We want to thank everyone who’s supported, donated and helped us to raise an incredible amount of money.”

With their fundraising efforts temporarily on pause, Alison, Matt, and the Blue Bell team are now turning their attention to the rest of the year’s events – including a fun-filled Halloween lineup, weekly quiz nights, and the launch of their festive Christmas menu coming this November.
