The Blue Boar pub in Ludlow is currently undergoing a £275k transformation with Punch Pubs & Co – and a glimpse of its bold new look has already been unveiled.

The beloved Grade II listed pub, which is set to reopen this October, is being carefully restored to preserve its authentic character and charm, while introducing a fresh twist that reflects both heritage and future.

Leading pub company, Punch, is working closely with Interior Designer Jemma Kiddle, to ensure the investment is not only first class, but also sustainably developed and rooted in integrity.

They aim to celebrate what already exists, minimise waste and ensure every element contributes to the story and flow of the pub. In doing so, the first changes to the Blue Boar have already taken shape. Furniture has been reclaimed, and decorative light fittings have been sourced second-hand or antique. The artwork that adorns the wall and the bric-a-brac which complements it, have been inspired by Ludlow’s market, castle and tavern heritage, and the upholstery has also been sourced sustainably.

Rupert Reeves, Head of Operations at Punch Pubs, said: “We are delighted with the changes at the Blue Boar so far. Above anything else, Punch is a business that strives to ensure our pubs thrive at the heart of their communities, and here in Ludlow, we’re doing just that. It is our top priority that guests within the community are proud of their local, and I’m confident that once they see these changes, they’ll be proud to show it off.”

Every corner of the pub has been thoughtfully designed to tell the story of the 17th century, from materials and colour schemes to furniture and accessories. Each room will pay homage to Ludlow’s medieval heritage, including a striking feature backboard, painted metal signs depicting market square scenes and old traders’ signage, which will serve as the Blue Boar’s focal artwork, bringing warmth and identity.

It’s not just the inside of this beautiful pub that will be steeped in history. Outside, the transformation continues with a secret urban pub garden designed for relaxed drinking and dining. Full of texture, life, and quiet charm, the garden will feature antique planters and clustered pots alongside pallet bench seating, all set beneath a pergola frame illuminated by reclaimed copper and brass pendant lights to create a soft, ambient glow.

Taking guests on a journey through time while staying true to Punch’s purpose – to inspire those moments, this investment is a celebration of sustainability, community and hospitality.

Stepping in to oversee the running of this iconic, newly refurbished pub are Management Partners Helena Griffiths and Mark Tilston. The experienced hospitality duo are delighted to be reopening The Blue Boar, and are eager to welcome back the local community, many of whom now form part of their new Blue Boar team. Together, they’re ready to steer the pub into a bright and successful future.
