The Anchor pub in Bexley, Southeast London, has temporarily closed its doors as it undergoes a refresh in partnership with Punch Pubs & Co.
Paul Hughes, who has proudly run The Anchor for over three years, has big ambitions to make this much-loved local even more welcoming and inclusive.
Already a cherished part of the community, The Anchor has long been a favourite among locals, who have even had their say in shaping its future.
Thanks to the £170k investment, guests can expect a fresh new look when the pub reopens this October. From updated appliances and entertainment systems to subtle improvements in the garden and outdoor areas, the changes are designed to enhance the pub’s charm while keeping its heart intact.
One of the most requested additions: a varied range of real ales. Which Paul, with the support of his Operations Manager, Mark Leech, has ensured is on its way.
Speaking about the transformation, Paul said: “Running a pub is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. It’s about flexibility, meeting new people, and creating memorable experiences for our guests.
“This investment couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m so grateful to Punch for listening to our community and working with us to make The Anchor even better. We’ve taken on board what our guests want, and we’re creating a space they’ll love and feel proud of.”
The Anchor closed in late September and will reopen on Monday, the 13th of October.
Despite the changes, Paul is clear that one thing will remain, he said: “The foundation of The Anchor is consistency – great service, quality food, and warm hospitality. That’s what brings people back.
“The Anchor isn’t loud or hectic – it’s a place for conversation. Whether it’s a group of mates enjoying a few beers, ladies sharing a bottle of wine, or families gathering for a Sunday roast, there’s something here for everyone.”
As the reopening approaches, guests can follow the pub’s journey and sneak peeks of the refresh on The Anchor’s social media pages.
