Following a major transformation, The Filly & Flagon – formerly The Gate – has reopened its doors, welcoming guests with a fresh look and new faces behind the bar.

The reopening marks a new chapter for this beloved Malton landmark. Leading the way are experienced hospitality stars Lloyd Gallon and Kim Woolley, whose combined 60 years of experience will help reshape the pub and bring it back to life.

“We’re thrilled to be reopening the doors and welcome guests back into the pub,” Lloyd said. “It’s been a long time in the making, but our priority is, and always will be, to ensure our guests enjoy an excellent service within a cared-for and comfortable environment.

“We want this pub to be a vibrant hub for Malton once again, and it’s what our locals deserve. For Kim and me, this chapter is all about bringing joy and connection to every guest who walks through our door, and we’re incredibly excited to see what the future holds.”

Dramatic changes have taken place at the pub; aside from the rebrand and name change, the Filly & Flagon has undergone a total investment inside and out thanks to Punch Pubs & Co.

Striking changes have taken shape, including all-new signage and a major upgrade to the pub’s beer garden, which has created a welcoming space to be used all year round.

Indoors, a completely new aesthetic has taken over, with a combination of metal seating, upholstered stools and patterned carpets, complementing the ambient bar pendants and brass fonts – which now boast the pub’s new range of craft and cask, premium spirits and fine wines.

The investment also pays homage to the pub’s history, with chalkboard artwork, a bespoke mirror, artwork and bric-a-brac creating the authentic, warm and inviting feeling that Lloyd and Kim were hoping for.

Punch Pubs & Co Operations Manager, Paul Hutchinson, shared: “The Filly & Flagon pub looks fantastic, and we are thrilled to be partnering with Lloyd and Kim, who have patiently been waiting to see it reopen. The investment has breathed new life into the pub and into Malton, and I am looking forward to seeing it flourish again under their leadership. This is an exciting new chapter.”
