After six weeks of anticipation and closure, The Chequers pub in Lytchett Matravers has reopened with a brand new look.

The beloved community pub has undergone a significant transformation following a £410k investment by leading pub company Punch Pubs & Co.

Reopening on Tuesday, 25th of March, the pub has quickly attracted guests eager to experience the new internal and external upgrades, including an all-new bar and dining area, a secret back garden, and a plush lounge area.

At the helm of The Chequers is an experienced operator and new Management Partner (MP), Ryan Andress. Returning to the hospitality industry after a brief break, Ryan was excited to welcome the community back to the pub. “The last few weeks have been surreal, from first seeing the pub to where it is now, the changes are incredible,” Ryan said. “We knew that The Chequers had so much potential, but never anticipated it to look as good as it does. Hearing our guests say that too, it’s the most rewarding feeling.”

The pub hosted a soft launch last Saturday, where the community of Lytchett Matravers was invited for sneak peeks of the transformation. Guests were treated to complimentary drinks and nibbles, allowing them to explore the new look before the official reopening.

The Chequers’ aesthetic changes embrace its traditional style, enhanced by bar stools, rustic furnishings, and vintage-style photo galleries. Bold colours and dark oak tables complement the new design, while pendant lighting in the bar area creates a warm and ambient glow. The back bar, adorned with characteristic ornaments, perfectly houses the pub’s vast range of beers, spirits, wines, cocktails, and soft drinks.

Among the new features is a cosy and intimate snug with richly textured fabrics, antique side tables, and plush stools, which is designed for guests to unwind and feel at home.

One of the most significant transformations is the conservatory, beautifully decorated with plants and potted herbs. This spacious area boasts natural lighting and vintage-style bric-a-brac, with a combination of upholstered seating, comfy sofas, and wooden chairs.

Guests have praised not only the aesthetic changes but also the pub’s new food offering. The menu now includes seasonal dishes, hearty mains, and sumptuous puddings, along with the return of the once-famous carvery.

Throughout the renovation process, progress was shared weekly, prompting community members to share fond memories of the pub and commend its new inviting look.

“Everyone has been so pleased with the changes so far, and I’m encouraged by the support our guests have given us since we reopened,” Ryan added. “This is just the start of a new beginning for The Chequers. While it’s still the same pub that locals know and love, the enhanced features, return of the carvery, and new food menu have created a whole new desire to visit, firmly cementing the pub at the heart of the village.”

Bookings are now open for The Chequers, which can be made online or over the phone.
