Leading UK pub company Punch have invested over £1.2 million into pubs in the Scarborough and Whitby area since August 2015.

The Dolphin Hotel in the centre of Whitby and the Dickens Bar & Inn in Scarborough town represent £650,000 of investment in their local communities.

Dickens Bar and Inn (previously known as the Pickwick), in Scarborough, was one of Punch’s most recent investments. A huge £450,000 spend transformed the popular town centre pub. replacing and redecorating everything from floors, walls and ceilings alongside new lighting and fixtures and fittings.

These investments are part of Punch’s £45 million investment in their pubs throughout the UK. Punch have already spent nearly £800,000 this year alone in the Highlands and a further £1.2 million in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire respectively. Punch plan to continue to invest throughout the UK in the next financial year.

Member of Parliament for Scarborough and Whitby, Mr Robert Goodwill said: “It’s really great to see that Punch have put so much time, effort and money into my constituency.

“I am incredibly grateful and with the amount of tourist attraction we receive, this will really help all business owners throughout the seaside towns. I have been lucky enough to re-open and visit a number of Punch pubs and I must say, the transformation has been phenomenal.”

Chief Executive Officer of Punch, Duncan Garrood commented: “Competition for customers in the leisure and hospitality industry has never been fiercer and pubs have to keep up in order to remain relevant. Our investment in our Pubs is designed to place them at the centre of their communities and give them every advantage against their competitors.

“I’m delighted we have had the opportunity to invest so heavily in the Scarborough and Whitby area and hope that our customers will reap the benefits.”
